Mobsters & Molls

Last night was the “Celebrity Waiter” Event for Evergreen Ministries. Evergreen is an incredible foundation for Mental Retardation. They come in where the state stops.

This year I put together a table and chose a Mobster & Molls theme for our table. (With some help from my trusty cousin and father)

It was dark in the room and it didn’t really capture the lighting. I had a white urn with 40 red carnations surrounding a 4 ft tall Eifel Tower Vase. Tommy guns came out of the carnations and the Tower vase was filled with crystal floral beads and flashing lights. The top of the vase exposed 35 Bleached White Ostrich feathers. Olive Picks were hidden inside the feathers and battery operated string lights.

What you can’t see, because the table ended up being SO FULL – was that my sweet red-neck husband took the table cloth out to the camp and shot holes all through it. Then I took red paint and made blood splatters on top of it. It was pretty gruesome.

Two martini glasses were on top of mirrored plates and the centerpiece was flanked by Horsehead busts.

Old photographs and mugshots of some of the most infamous Mobsters and Molls were framed and used for seating arrangement. (Lucky Luciano pictured below)

Also above you can see the mini martini glasses that held three red carnations each and were also individually lit for each place setting.

White chair covers with red sashes and little guns were on every chair (only table with them)

Tribute to the Godfather

Fish wrapped in newspapers with headlines like “Bonnie & Clyde Gunned Down” “Prohibition Ends at Last” “Capone Indited” etc. etc. Cigars added to them for the Mobsters and Cigarette Filters for the Molls and all placed on black chargers.

So when planning the table – I cut and pasted together some ideas in photo shop:

I WON!! I can't believe - but I actually won. And it is the best prize EVER!

One of my most favorite blogs, Spearmint Baby (as if you don't already know this), had a giveaway from Etsy Shop, Polkadotmagpie. And guess who won? Little ole me!

I got my choice of personalized bird necklace - and it was not a decision to be taken lightly. After much angst, I finally decided upon this little tweeter:

Of course, I don't have a son named Henry yet, so they will personalize with my daughter's name. How generously thoughful of them.

I can't tell you how excited I am about winning this necklace. I have to confess, had I not won, I would have purchased anyway. I have a round pendant necklace with my daughters Initials on one side and birthdate on the back. As simple as it is, it my favorite piece of jewlery and I wear it constantly. I feel certain that this necklace will be too.

They remind me of something by Misha Lulu, who has been my favorite the past couple months. I like the vintage fabrics - you can't find anything like it where I live.

Three Little Cajun Pigs

Three Cajun Little Pigs, by Mike Artell and Illustrated by Jim Davis, is one of my favorite books. It still cracks me up. Complete with a cajun dictionary in the front to explain Loo-siana words and correct pronounciation- the story has a much more unique twist than the traditional Three Little Pigs.
The Villan in THIS version is Claude the gator who Whacks at the houses with his tail and soon finds himself in a very precarious situation.
I just can't tell you how fun this book is to read - it might be my all-time favorite. (Next to Horton Hatches the Egg and anything Shell Silverstein).
This would be an expected gift to any little boy and girl, and you could probably have a high level of confidence that it is not currently in their collection.
These guys did another book as well, La Petit Rouge - the cajun version of Little Red Riding Hood. I have this one too, but Three Cajun Pigs is my favorite of the two.

I forget, but one of the Uber talented bloggers that I follow posted this artist recently, SimplyAnnieKate - and when I looked, I had to have this dress for H.R.H. (AND it is only $28 - what?!?)

The best part is - Valentine's Day this year falls on the same day as my favorite Mardi Gras parade (the kid friendly parade is ALWAYS the most fun!) So we will get to wear our Valentine Day dress for EVERYONE to see.

Pottery Barn always has good stuff sale - and this week is no exception. H.R.H. just turned two and is not ready for the transition from Crib to Toddler bed. BUT WHEN SHE IS....

I saw this on sale and HAD to buy it. Only $99 for a twin, what a steal. I almost felt guilty (not really).

Then I went to Etsy for a print to match. What do you think? Farmhousefive had this alphabet print for only $15.50! Craziness

However, I will be sad to see our fabulous Elizabeth Allen Crib bedding that we got from Layla Grace go

Here in Louisiana it is TOO COLD. We got down into the teens this week and I have never been more miserable.
I have also never been more stir-crazy and ready for warm weather.

Because of this, I spent (according to my husband) too much money on a swimsuit for HRH.

In my defense, look at this. I have never seen anything so spectacular. I am a little old-fashion in toddler clothing and can't bring myself to buy HRH one of the triangle top bikinis that I am seeing everywhere. It is BY FAR the most adorable swimsuit I have seen yet, and it will cover her diaper entirely and keep her looking like she is a two year old.

This morning, after a VERY long night, HRH opened her new shoes. Her response?

"Pretty shoes, I love you"

Please keep in mind that my husband and I have been coaxing her to tell one of us "I love you" for weeks now, to no avail. She finally utters those three precious words - to a PAIR OF SHOES.

What do you do when you are not blogging?
Mostly play, but I do enjoy a nap during the day and the occasional meal

How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging back when I was only 20 months old. I had followed a few blogs prior to that and got so many tips and advice on how to handle my parents. I wanted to give something too, so I started H.R.H

What is your least favorite word?
NO. Well wait - my least favorite to hear or say?
To say:
Oh - well, then I would have to go with YES.

If you could have a superpower, what would you choose?
Hmm... probably being invisible. That Mommy has eyes in the back of her head I tell you...

Where do you see yourself, blogging wise, in the next 6 months?
Whoa - that is REALLY looking forward. Let's see - I definately see myself improving on spelling and grammer. But I also see myself being able to understand my own emotions better and hopefully relate them in a more effective way.

Why such a long name and where did Her Royal Heinous, Queen Bee originate?
Mommy. She has called me Bee since I was a wee little baby, Her Royal Heinous was added when I learned to walk.

What is your favorite book?
I would have to say Olivia by Ian Falconer. I love the color Red and Cats, which both play big parts in his writing.
And I also just adore George Rodrique's Why is Blue Dog Blue?

What type of music do you enjoy?
I have a wide variety of musical tastes. It just depends on the morning. On rainy days I tend to like Showtunes more - you know, Oklahoma, Oliver, Annie. But there is nothing better than a sunny afternoon and jamming out to BareNaked Ladies SnackTime CD.

Last Question - What advice would you offer potential bloggers?
Bee yourself!
Oh - and don't eat the buttons from the keyboard - people get REALLY mad and it (eventually) hurts.

Today started off as a good day - great even.

Daycare closed due to flooding, AND my husband returned from another business (defending our country,blah blah) trip.

Well - everyone knows what happens when daycare closes...MIMOSAS!

So my friend comes over with her son, TB and while our children entertain themselves, we entertain OURSELVES.

Several POPs later and the husband returns from work. All evidence of debauchery is well hidden.

He has planned on going hunting but the way to our camp is under water, so he has to plan to hunt somewhere else in the morning. Problem is - the majority of his hunting gear is at our unreachable camp.

SO - under the guise of going out to buy me red wine, which I crave- he goes to buy rubber boots.

It has been an hour. I have no wine. I am blogging about having no wine. Life is NOT as good as it was earlier.

**update - he came home with Beringer Founders Estate Pinot Noir - thanks for the $7 splurge love. Although, it actually doesn't taste that bad...

Eternal Creation creates really cool sale!

I just read about this company recently on a blog I randomly passed by and WISH I could remember the name of. Or was it a magazine? I spend too much time on the internet.

Bright, fun colors, fabrics and patterns for fall apparel is such a nice break from the muted tones I have seen lately. But if you have the time - PLEASE read their story. A fascinating journey brought her as a volunteer to India and Tibet helping teach refugees... I won't spoil it for you, but the Eternal Creation Story is worth a visit to the site alone. Inspirational.

Oh wait - did I forget they were having a SALE? Buy two dresses and get one FREE! Or buy two boys shirts and get one FREE - I love that word!

I always get excited about Christmas cards and then my husband always makes me go with something boring and gender neutral (whats wrong with a PINK family Christmas card!)

An Elffin Great Christmas Indeed!

This year H.R.H will be two - which means she will (hopefully) be more excited about Christmas this year!

To start her out, we can't wait to buy The Elf on the Shelf. Our friends have had so many funny stories to share about these little guys! The 'pack' includes a book that explains how Santa knows who has been bad or good every year. He sends out a scout elf to every home and the elf watches the children during the day and reports back to the North Pole each night. Every morning he returns and is in a different location in the house. Isn't that great? Most of the books come with their own elf like the one sold at Barnes & Noble below:

You can get them anywhere - but I will probably order mine from Barnes & Noble when I get my new coupons next week. I checked amazon and there prices matched Barnes & Nobles as well. They should be priced around $30.

And today we ordered our Advent Elf from Garnet Hill! She is a tad on the expensive side ($78!), but we will keep her for years to come and I believe she is worth it. You can choose a boy or a girl elf and I can't wait to hide H.R.H little treasures to discover!

Little Brown Boot Fever

I have seen so many hip little brown boots for H.R.H. this season. It is so easy to fall in love and so difficult to make a decision. I almost hope her feet grow fast this year so I can justify buying TWO pairs of brown boots.

MiniSocial is having an Umi sale today (which are just the cutest!) - look at these boots they have offered for $39! I checked other sites to see if they were on sale elsewhere - not at $39.

Oh I wish these were in my size...
